Annual Vaccinations for the
Biewer Terrier

Of course, it is always better to protect your pet from possibility of getting an infectious disease. The most reliable protection for many infections is always considered annual vaccination. It is carried out for all clinically healthy animals that are living in apartments or private houses. Prompt vaccination will help the Biewer Terrier to overcome an infection asymptomatically or with a minimal treatment. While an unvaccinated animal will be susceptible to a severe course of the disease and will often be forced to use expensive treatment.

Biewer Terrier vaccination starts at 2 months of age. It is preceded by several treatments for internal parasites. This is done in order to be sure that during vaccination the puppy's body is not weakened by the presence of any parasites and the immune system correctly perceives the vaccination.

The second vaccination is carried out at least three weeks after the first one. Before it, it is also necessary to do the treatment for Endo-parasites.

Three weeks is the period when the Biewer Terrier's immunity begins to produce antibodies to all infections. Revaccination after 3 weeks is mandatory and is needed already to consolidate the immune response of the puppy's body.

The composition of the first two vaccines must necessarily include components that fight the pathogens of canine distemper, infectious hepatitis, adenovirus infection, parainfluenza, leptospirosis, parvovirus and coronavirus enteritis.
There should be at least two of such vaccinations. It is possible to do the third vaccination closer to the 16-week age of the animal.

At 3 months there is a period when the puppy can move from the breeder's house, where all quarantine measures and precautions against infection of a very dangerous rabies virus are observed. The animal can become infected simply by licking the same branch that the infected animal licked. Also, the rabies virus can get in with the saliva of an infected animal through micro scratches.

That is why advisable to plan the moving of a puppy to new owners after vaccination for rabies. It is no longer necessary to maintain quarantine after this vaccination.

Do not listen to stupid stories about the dangers of rabies vaccination at an early age and its impact on the change of teeth. This is all WRONG. Yes, the vaccines that were used 30-50 years ago contained components that are dangerous for a small puppy. Now vaccines for rabies and other common infections are produced by large world-famous companies in Europe and the USA. Over the past 30 years, they have improved their production and reached the best quality, minimized the danger of their drugs, which are used to vaccinate animals at any age.

Since the age of 4 months, puppies begin to change their teeth. The teeth change ends up closer to 7-9 months. After a complete change of teeth you need to do another vaccination for infectious diseases in order to maximally protect your puppy.

Subsequently, vaccination is carried out once a year.

This is my vaccination schedule, which I follow as recommended by WSAVA – World Small Animal Veterinary Association. My scheme may differ from the vaccination schemes of other breeders, but is non-negotiable.
Everyone has the right to protect his animal in the way he considers right and be happy with him for many years of living together.
