Daily care of the
Biewer Yorkshire Terrier

Looking after a Biewer is not as difficult as it might seem. Since his hair is similar in texture to the hair of a Yorkie, during walks in damp and wet weather his coat can absorb moisture and become tangled. This can also happen because of the wearing of all kinds of clothes that the owners put on their pets. Also, wool can become tangled when combing is not done regularly. Tangled hair can be easily avoided by spending 10-20 minutes of time per day for combing. Or you can get a salon haircut, which will be the easiest way to keep your Biewer groomed. If the owners do not have enough time to care on their own, they can contact the grooming salon, where they will undergo all the necessary hygiene procedures and the pet's coat will be done in a proper way.

Biewers are a non-shedding breed. Therefore, when you purchase such a dog, you may not worry that there will be a lot of lost hair on clothes and in the apartment. Due to its small compact size, the Biewer is suitable for both owners of large houses and residents of small apartments.

Biewer's morning should begin with washing.

You can do this with a cotton pad moistened with boiled water or with a solution of sodium chloride (saline solution). You can also use ready-made compositions for the hygiene of the eyes and muzzle, which are sold on our market.

Between the toes and the pads on the paws, you need to cut off extra hair approximately every 2 weeks. Otherwise, overgrown hair will cause paws to slide on the floor, which is unsafe not only for a small puppy, but also for an adult dog.
The claws must also be trimmed, but very carefully so as not to hook the neural pathways that are situated in the claw.
Biewer's ears need to be cleaned about once a week and are the best time for doing this is after bathing. For ears cleaning, you can use special solutions-lotions or Chlorhexidine solution, which is sold in usual pharmacies.

If the owner of the puppy notices uncharacteristic discharge from the eyes, nose or ears of the puppy, it is necessary to first consult with the breeder. He will tell you where to go in order to prevent deterioration and loss of hearing, vision or other unpleasant diseases.

During the necessary hygiene procedures, the owner needs to speak with his puppy in an optimistic and clear (IN ANY CASE Pitying!!!) voice: "Well done, good kid, beautiful! Smart!!!" Don`t use “poor baby be patient!!!” The main thing is perseverance and patience!

As for the other breeds there is also a need to pluck the hairs from the ears of the Biewer. If there is too much hair growing there, it can make it difficult to clean the ears, such hair should be plucked. You can do this yourself or ask an experienced groomer to do it. This procedure is not at all as painful as many people think. Cause if you do this procedure since childhood, it becomes a common thing, like combing or brushing the teeth. As your doggie gets older, the hair in the ears often stops growing, and this procedure can be abandoned. It is better to use specific tweezer, which will be sterilized and cleaned each time before usage. You can do it with an ethanol or an antiseptic wipe. If necessary, you can use a special powder for the ears, it makes the process less painful, more hygienic and much easier. No matter how carefully the owner of the Biewer cleans the ears of his pet, it is still physically impossible to do this completely. Because of the auricle structure peculiarity. Therefore, pulling out extra hair from the auricle sometimes becomes the only way to prevent clogging of the auricle and clean it as much as possible.

Clipping the upper third of the ear`s hair is also considered a mandatory rule in caring for puppies and adult Biewer Yorkshire Terriers. It is the upper part of the ear that should be shaved or cut short so as not to weigh the ear and doesn`t let it fall forward. This is considered a breed haircut for both the Yorkshire Terrier and the Biewer Terrier. The making of tufted ears or letting the hair to overgrow the edge of the ear are free choices of each owner. That styles sometimes cause drooping of the ears and an inappropriate expression of the Biewer`s muzzle.

For Biewer Terrier besides cutting the hair on the ears and paws, it is needed to cut of the wool in the anus, genitals and on the paws. Each owner can learn how to do this or seek help from a grooming specialist.

After puppy have reached the age of 3 months, the owners of the Biewer need to ensure that the hair on the face of their pet does not get into his eyes. This can cause discomfort to the puppy, may cause tearing and in the future can bring a lot of troubles to the puppy and his owner. Therefore, at the age of 3 months the puppy should get used to tying an elastic band in the lower part of the forehead, above the eyes. Then, when the puppy stops paying attention to the rubber band, the owner can use all kinds of bows, hairpins, which are sold in specialized pet stores, markets and on the Internet.

Hygienic bathing of a Biewer Yorkshire Terrier puppy must be done daily. Nevertheless, the full bathing of the puppy must be carried out at least once in 2 weeks. Since Biewer's hair, like human hair, has the ability of absorbing accompanying odors, bathing should be carried out systematically. It will prevent the odor-absorbed dirty wool from tangling and won`t cause unnecessary inconvenience to the owners and the puppy in future.
